Wig help, all in one place

Everything you need to choose, fit and care for your outlet wig. Outlet sales are final, so a few minutes here can save a lot of guesswork.

Find your size

Most wigs come in an average cap size, and most can be adjusted about 1 to 1½ inches with the tabs at the nape. Measure before you order so you know which size fits you best.

Cap sizeFits a head circumference of
Petite21 inches and smaller
Average21½ to 22½ inches
Large22½ inches and larger

Flatten your hair first, then lay a soft tape measure gently against your head without pulling it tight.

  1. Circumference. Start at the center of your front hairline. Go just above one ear, around the back of your head at the nape of your neck, above the other ear and back to where you started.
  2. Front to nape. Tilt your head back to find where your neck bends: that is your nape. Measure from your front hairline straight over the top of your head to that point.
  3. Ear to ear. Measure from the top of one ear, over the crown, to the top of the other ear.

Compare your numbers with the measurements listed on each product page.

Which fiber is right for me?

The fiber decides how your wig looks, how you style it and how long it lasts.

Synthetic

The style is built in and bounces back after every wash, so it is ready to wear with little effort. It dries quickly, comes in the widest range of colors and costs less than human hair. It cannot be restyled with heat and does not last as long as human hair.

Heat friendly

A synthetic fiber made to handle styling tools such as curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers, so you can change the look. It keeps the easy care and color range of synthetic. You may see it called high heat on our site: it is the same fiber.

Human hair

The most natural look and movement, the longest life and the most styling options. It needs styling after each wash, reacts to humidity and costs more than synthetic.

Some styles use a blend of synthetic and human hair to get the easy care of one and the natural feel of the other.

Cap types explained

The cap is the base the hair is attached to. It affects comfort, how natural the part and hairline look, and how you can wear the style.

Standard or wefted cap
Rows of hair are sewn onto strips of material that cover the whole cap. Durable and full, with a set style.
Capless or open cap
The rows are spaced further apart, so the cap is lighter and lets air through. A comfortable choice for all day wear.
Monofilament top
Each hair is hand tied into a fine mesh, so the part looks like natural scalp and you can change where you part it. Often chosen for sensitive scalps.
Double monofilament
An extra soft layer sits under the mesh to keep the knots off your scalp for even more comfort.
Lace front
A sheer lace edge at the front creates a natural looking hairline, so you can wear the hair off your face.
100% hand tied
The whole cap is hand tied, front to back, for the most natural movement and the look of scalp wherever the hair parts.

You can see the cap type for every style on its product page.

Different wig cap constructions

Putting on your wig

  1. Give the wig a gentle shake to loosen the style.
  2. Find the back: the label always sits at the back of the nape.
  3. Pull your own hair back off your face and pin longer hair flat. A wig liner or wig cap helps keep it in place.
  4. Hold the wig at the sides, set the front at your natural hairline and slide it on from front to back, like a swim cap.
  5. Line the front edge up with your hairline and use the ear tabs to center it.
  6. Adjust the tabs at the nape until the wig feels secure but not tight.

Caring for your wig

Washing

  1. Gently ease out any tangles without stretching the fibers.
  2. Soak the wig in a basin of cold water with wig shampoo for 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Rinse in cold water until all the shampoo is gone. Hot water can remove the style and curl.
  4. Pat with a towel and let it air dry on a towel or wig stand.
  5. Wait until it is completely dry before you brush or comb it. Synthetic styles bounce back on their own as they dry.

Styling

  • Use a wig brush or wide tooth comb, not a regular hairbrush, and work out tangles from the ends up.
  • For curls and ringlets, skip the brush. Separate them with your fingers or a pick.
  • Wig conditioner and wig spray make styling easier and help your wig last longer. Use only hairspray made for wigs.
  • Only use curling irons, flat irons or blow dryers on heat friendly or human hair styles.

Keep away from

  • Bleach, hair color and rinses.
  • Open flames and high heat, such as hot ovens, grills and steam rooms.

Before you order

All outlet sales are final, so take a minute to check these before you order.

  • Color. Look at the swatch photo for your color on the product page. Photos of the model may show a color that is no longer available. Not sure? Try the color finder.
  • Size. Compare your measurements with the ones listed for the style.
  • Cap and fiber. Check that the cap type and fiber suit how you want to wear and style it.
